Did you know that Whitehall citizens buried a time capsule on June 5, 1976, next to the flag pole outside of the front entrance to the Whitehall Borough Municipal Building?
In June, Whitehall Public Works will exhume the time capsule and after inspection and cleaning, the contents will be made publicly viewable inside the Whitehall Public Library and at events hosted by the Whitehall Historical Society. We are anxious to see what's inside and are excited to present these historical artifacts with you. |

2026 Time Capsule Burial, August 12, Time TBD
|
As part of our celebration, we will bury a 2026 time capsule in the grass pad just outside of the Whitehall Pool during the week of August 10.
Whitehall residents are invited to donate items for the capsule by mailing items to, or dropping off items at, the Whitehall Public Library during normal business hours. We will accept:
|
- media and pop culture items (newspapers, magazines, tickets, black and white photos, which are recommended for longevity),
- documents of modern-day information (lists of current favorite things, top movies, foods, songs, trends), school mementos, artistic projects,
- predictions and messages (letters to Whitehall's future self and future residents, written predictions for the future).
Donated items should be:
- created in or specifically referring to something happening in the years 2025 and or 2026.
- sealed in airtight plastic freezer bags to extend longevity.
- photocopied when possible (newspapers and ink degrade quickly).
- labeled using pencils to avoid ink fading (no pens or sharpies).
- be a reflection of things that have happened between the last capsule and the current capsule (because those artifacts don't necessarily reflect modern day).
Student Artwork Contest
|
Ninelle D., student at J. E. Harrison Middle School, was the winner of the Baldwin-Whitehall School District Student Artwork Contest! Ninelle created the original artwork design that incorporated patriotic symbolism, incorporated the Whitehall Borough crest, and the design was voted as the best student artwork submission out of nearly 50 entries. Ninelle received a $100 Amazon gift card and the design will be used during this summer's celebratory events. The Whitehall America250 Committee and the Baldwin-Whitehall Educational Foundation co-hosted the contest, and we would like to thank all students who submitted an original design!
