The Dorothy Hutchins Forman Visual Arts Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Dorothy "Dotty" Hutchins Forman, a professional visual artist for over 40 years and a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Society of Artists, and the Pittsburgh Group. She completed her master's in art and teaching at the Rhode Island School of Design and taught art in public schools in Cranston, R.I., before moving to Pittsburgh in 1973 and teaching at Mellon Junior High School in Mt. Lebanon. The Forman family (husband Robert and sons Peter and Andrew) hope that this scholarship will pay forward the gift of art and encourage continued expressions through drawing, painting, sculpting, and art instruction. Applicants must carry a minimum grade point average of 3.0, be in good standing with the Baldwin-Whitehall School District, volunteer and/or participate in extra-curricular activities, plan to pursue an undergraduate degree at an accredited four-year institution, and may be pursuing a degree that will result in a career as an artist or an art teacher. |
